Aleph Lists?

I didn't know if this topic was better suited for here, or the water cooler, but seeing it was literature related, I thought I'd shoot it here...

Mike, when I was reading your blog, I was intrigued by this concept of the "Aleph Lists." None of my poetry classes ever covered anything along those lines, and I've never heard the term before. I've run across other writing resources which recommend keeping a phrase and image and word list of things that just catch your mind, but I didn't know if this was just another person's way of talking of the Aleph List or what exactly it was? Could you elaborate more on the Aleph List?

Cover songs

Hi Mike!

I was reading your blog and I was wondering if you ever recorded any covers that you performed? I remember when you guys came up to PA 5 years ago, you did a cover (I can't remember who it was but it was friggin awesome!) - It's going to drive me crazy now...Anyway, i think it would be cool if you and Mark recorded a "live acoustic session" with originals and some covers thrown in the mix. Would it be worth doing something like that and selling the songs on Itunes? I would def by it!!!

PS - the remix songs that you did, especially "when i was five" are amazing!!! Oh and "Axis 3: Koala - Candelabra sessions" i really dig. Great stuff!!!

Studio - All at once or a few at a time?

Heya Mike,

First I wanted to say thanks for the April podcast! I finally got around to listening to it last night and was thinking "geez...it really is great that Mike shares this with us." The personal perspective and technical advice that you relay to us, your fans and aspiring musicians, is both inspirational and entertaining! I appreciate it.

My band is doing well locally, but the demos we have currently for booking and promotion are several years old and no longer match our sound. However, I don't have all the material I want yet to record a full record. I've floated the idea to the guys that maybe we book studio time to record 3-4 songs, with the intention to use them for booking now, and then incorporating them into a full album down the line.

My question is, in your opinion, is it going to be an issue when we do make the full album? i.e. The drums wouldn't have all been recorded at the same time (or the same room), so would have a different sound. Same with guitars and vocals.

Your thoughts?

Focus, Part One

Mike,

In the track list shown in your latest blog post (Spring Tracking), I noticed that "Focus" is listed as "Focus, Pt. 1". I have a recording of an old demo of the song that was also labeled "Part 1". I always wondered whether is was a part of the title or just some notation. This new blog post seems to confirm that it is part of the title. Can you shed some light on what it means?

And I'll thank you again for not using the title "I'm On My Way". "Focus" is so much better. The opening riff of this song has been my ringtone for years!

Based on how busy you've been the last few months, my guess is that the new studio and work is going well.

I know you had some goals regarding booked hours/month. My curiousity is to see what your goal was, how busy things have been since you opened the door, and if your goal for 2009 is any different.

Any pet projects of your own on the horizon you're excited about?

Just saw you posted another date already next month. Can we expect a lot of live performances in '09 in support of Mark's album? Perhaps some touring around the country?

What are the plans next year for solo shows? Monthly as well because that would be fantastic?

Hey Mike!

How your e doing? Here s a huge of you and your music from Rosenheim. Its about 60km south of Munich (if you might know that).

I even managed it to buy your CDs "Building a hole" and "The lessons of autumn" (even though its hard to get one in Germany) and I must admitt say your music really is great.

I play guitar by myself and I tried to cover some of you songs from "Live at the evening Muse" by "learning by doing", but no way. You can play way too good ;-)

So my question is, are there any possibilities you came to Germany for a show???
